We advocate a contemporary architectural style that reflects our age, with modern design drawing on the qualities of craftsmanship and beautiful durable materials. Every project is unique and requires an individual and sensitive response to site, context, and brief. We believe design excellence creates added value, and we bring our understanding of materiality, tectonics and place making to all projects to create delightful, humane and sustainable homes and buildings. Our work takes us across the whole of the South West of England, occasionally much further afield, but is focused around the beautiful coast and hills of Devon & Cornwall whenever possible.

THE PRACTICE

Our portfolio includes extensive experience of designing contemporary architectural solutions for challenging and sensitive sites, often involving highly protected historic Listed buildings and difficult planning constraints such as National Parks and National Landscapes (AONB’s). All of our work aims to minimise it’s environmental impact: New buildings we create are generally designed as net-zero carbon, deep-retrofit work is designed to Passivhaus Enerphit standard, and even our work in historic and Listed buildings pushes their environmental performance as far as the historic fabric allows. We are members and supporters of various Charities & Organisations: Cool Earth, Architects Declare, 1% For The Planet, SAS Ocean Network & Architecture Sans Frontieres. We work collaboratively with a wide network of trusted Consultants & Specialists in planning, design and construction, and have an excellent knowledge of the planning system, including very good working relationships with the Local Authorities across the South West.

HOW WE WORK

The Practice office and design studio is in a 1930’s modernist building on the Dartington Hall Estate. You can arrange an initial conversation at our offices or on your site by clicking on any of the ‘contact us’ links, emailing or calling us directly. We offer the full RIBA Architectural Service from concept design, through planning and building regulations, to construction and completion; we can work with you every step of the way through your project. We often get asked to work on detailed design of furniture, joinery, lighting and interiors and we can offer real added value by working in this manner. We are flexible about how involved we are with your project. Sometimes we might only provide concept design and feasibility studies, or draw up plans to get you planing permission, but generally we work with you and your team right through to completion to ensure every project runs smoothly and is a pleasure to build, and live or work in.

ABOUT WILL

Will’s first Architecture degree was at Greenwich University, on their forward thinking contemporary architecture course. After working for a number of highly regarded Practices in London he moved back to the South West completing his qualifications and Masters studies at Plymouth University, renowned for its ecological and humane design approach. Will graduated from Plymouth in 2005 with a distinction, the School of Architecture Prize, a nomination for a RIBA Silver Medal, and was featured in Building Design Magazine’s “Top Architecture Students - Class of 2005”. Will takes the lead role on all projects within the practice, assisted by his team of Architects, Collaborators and Consultants.

“I worked with Will on a large building project renovating a courtyard of derelict barns. I found Will very personable from the off and enjoyed working with him.

He supported me through the planning, design and building stages of the project. His ideas were fresh and innovative but also carefully thought out and his instincts were sound. I really appreciated his expertise and experience.” - Kate, Client
