The site for this new build house was located in the beautiful sloping wooded hills above the popular north Cornwall town of Bude. The steep site lent itself well to a taller more vertical design which steps back up the slope, maximising the stunning west facing views over the treetops and down to the coast beyond.

The building is layered with the lowest story clad in stone, and upper floors, clad in timber. The hill behind is allowed to wrap around the building, using gabions to create space where required at ground floor. The upper stories are set back and decrease in volume helping to reduce the sense of scale over the three stories.
An integral garage below the house keeps vehicles out of sight and clear of the long views. To create external terraces and garden space additional gabions were used to level areas of the very steep wooded site. The resulting contemporary home is a delight and surprise tucked into the hidden leafy setting.
